Mission and Values

Our mission

Our mission is to support the wellbeing and learning of young neurodiverse children and the communities around them by fostering sustainable and meaningful music engagement

Our Values

Proactive Inclusivity

We engage and support young neurodiverse learners and welcome the many ways they engage with music as part of their wellbeing, learning, and social lives.

Children’s Communities

We believe that caring for children entails caring for the communities around them: they are part of who we are and what we do.

Long Term Sustainability

Music engagement is at its most transformational when it is sustainable and independent: rather than providing a temporary ‘music service’, we foster lasting 'music engagement environments' around the needs and priorities of children, their settings and communities.

Reciprocity and Collaboration

SEYM is a joint, collaborative effort where we are all learners: we seek feedback, exchange ideas, knowledge and experience with children and adults, and build long-lasting partnerships across the sector.

Growth and Change

SEYM develops, matures and adapts in relation to changes in the needs and wants of children, practitioners and parents, the priorities of partner settings and organisations, as well as wider changes affecting the sector and our society at large.
